A symposium was organised by the Parks and Afforestation Department and implemented by the Zoo and Horse Care Division. The symposium was held on the occasion of World Animal Protection Day inside the educational hall at Al-Zawraa Zoo, with a distinguished attendance and fruitful cooperation. Representatives from the College of Veterinary Medicine – University of Baghdad, the Technical Department at the Ministry of Environment, the Veterinary Department at the Ministry of Agriculture, the Green Climate Organization, the Environment and Solid Waste Department, the Legal Department at Baghdad Municipality, as well as the zoo’s veterinarians, participated in the event.
Dr. Adel Al-Rubai’i, representing the College of Veterinary Medicine, delivered a lecture on ancient and modern Iraqi laws concerning animal care and protection, as well as the protection of breeders. This cooperation serves sound scientific research and provides a service to the community by finding ways to protect both humans and animals from diseases alike. It also highlighted the awareness-raising role that zoos play in spreading a culture of animal welfare and preserving biodiversity, as well as discussing laws related to animal protection.
