The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Baghdad organized a scientific ceremony to launch the academic standards for Colleges of Veterinary Medicine in Iraq in the presence of the Rector of the University of Baghdad, Prof/Dr Munir Al-Saadi, the Director of the Department of Quality Assurance and Academic Performance, Prof/Dr Omar Faleh, Prof/Dr Hamid Ali Kazem, Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, and a number of deans of Colleges of Veterinary Medicine in Iraq and members of the National Council for the Accreditation of Academic Standards of Colleges of Veterinary Medicines. In addition, Prof/ Dr Salah Hadi Al-Fatlawi, the head of the Scientific Supervision and Evaluation Apparatus at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, shared and talked about the importance of these academic standards that must come into practice to access local accreditation and then to global accreditation. Moreover, the Rector of the University of Baghdad talked about the importance of these standards as a national demand to improve the level of graduates of Veterinary Medicine in a befitting manner of this profession. Notably, the Colleges of Veterinary Medicine are among the educational institutions that need a revolution in their area from a philosophical perspective, educational systems, continuous comprehensive evaluation, developing their systems and programs, and adopting new standard levels in their academic programs and performance. Finally, the fields of veterinary education are no longer limited to animal health care and scientific research, but also the candidate must graduate as a qualified veterinarian, can conduct scientific and applied research, have continuous education, and serve the community per the local and regional labour market requirements.
